This 50 year old house has been restored into a modern and cosy guest house. It is right next to the lake Studen kladenets which is a hot spot for water and outdoor activities in the area. Four other accommodations are available within 15 km. The house sits on 1500 m2 of green yard with a charming view over the lake Studen kladenets. The lake is 28 km long and the house is in the middle part. Being perched on the top of the village, this house provides one of the top panoramas of the area. No houses behind, only a field and then the forest starts. One neighboring house only – just lawn from all other three sides of the guest house. There are numerous fruit trees including pear, apple, cherry, plum, apricot and quince as well as currant and mulberry bushes. The area also provides many trees from which you could make jam from wildly collected fruits for your guests.

The property is completely fenced with an outdoor parking space right next to the road. It is located 30 minutes from the nearest town of Kardzhali (40 000 citizens) where all you need can be bought from big supermarkets or outdoor market. Many small local producers available to buy products directly from them (cheese, butter, yogurt, eggs, etc.). The village is 15 km from Perperikon – the biggest archaeological complex and a top attraction of the area. The house is 800 m from the bank of the lake and 5 km walking distance from the nearest nature area. The Eastern Rhodope Mountains is full of attractions and possibilities for nature and adventure tourism and this house is right in the middle of it.

The house itself , composed of 340 m2, has four guestrooms (10 beds in total) and a beautiful panorama terrace on the second floor.

First floor (ground floor actually) has a dining area, fully equipped kitchen, living room with TV, 2 toilets and 2 bathrooms for common use. The third floor, now a storage space for the owners, is a half-open mansarda with possibility to become a guest floor. Basement of 40 m2 is also available for storage of all tools, scrap wood, garden stuff, buckets, etc. The owner’s room is on the first floor together with a small storage room and a laundry space right next to the bathrooms. Both floors are airconditioned. Extra heating on the first floor is supplied by a wood stove in the living room. One wood stove on the second floor and electric heaters are available in each guest room. The house has a septic tank.

Outbuildings include a summer shelter with a fireplace and a small covered terrace in the front. Outdoor front veranda is a favourite dining area. The house has been functioning as a successful bed and breakfast since 2016 (still running).

The location is amid rural farmland, and right next to nature reserves and lake Studen Kladenets. It is located 25 km from the town of Kardzhali. Additionally, the town has a cinema, schools, doctors, supermarkets, restaurants, museum of history, cultural houses, parks and many other. The house is between two cities – Kardzhali (30 min) and Haskovo (40 min) – good asphalt road leads to both. Only 100 final meters from the village road to the house itself is soil road.

I had chosen Mihaelas guest house based on other reviews and it turned out fantastic. We liked the combination of a relaxing retreat and the opportunity of gentle holiday activities which are offered within the Rhodope region. Mihaela also has kayaks and bikes for hire and can offer guided tours. The accommodation is a combination of shared living with the hosts and a few other guests. There is plenty of space for everyone. Alternatively, one might like to sit together and philosophise about the meaning of life or simply exchange travel tips. The fresh home made food at breakfast is fantastic, too. We had a hire car, but I understand Mihaela is helping with transport if needed.
