Deflation in the country is growing

The continued fall in the price of goods and services, known as deflation deepens. Monthly deflation reached 0.7%, the annual is about 1.5%. If you use EU methodology - ie. harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) recorded deflation is even higher: 1.9% yoy. Such deflation was no in Bulgaria from 2014. This is largely due to lower oil prices and commodity prices in international markets.

Compared to February 2016 the most are down transport and communication, clothing and footwear as well as food and beverages. Appreciation, and with the minimum 0.1%, is only in the sector of alcoholic beverages and tobacco. It is expected, however, continue to rise.

Compared yoy, the largest decline exists in food and non-alcoholic beverages, communications and transport. On the other hand, there is appreciation in education, restaurants and hotels, as with alcohol and cigarettes. . Higher cigarette prices can be explained by the increase in excise duty on them from the beginning of the year. The expectations of the government are that the increase in excise duties on cigarettes in the period 2016-2018, we will raise their prices by an average of 4% at the end of 2016 and 3.6% in 2017
