In Sofia will be built the largest hangar for repairs of aircraft in the Balkans

The German company Lufthansa Technik began construction of a hangar for repair of wide-body aircraft, replacing the now defunct Hangar 1, located near the airport "Sofia". This is expected to be the largest hangar for repairs of aircraft in the Balkans and be able to serve from 1 to 300 aircraft simultaneously.

The investment in the hangar amounts to 25 mln. Euros, and staff training will be invested another 5 mln. Euros. The new hangar is expected to reveal 300 new jobs for qualified employees, which employees in the Sofia branch of the company will increase to 1300. The implementation period of the project is late summer of 2017.

Sofia apparently proved very attractive destination for Lufthansa Technik, because the company has redirected some basic activities carried out at the headquarters in Germany to Sofia. These are activities such as logistics, planning, engineering and IT services.

By Lufthansa Technik boasted that since their work in Bulgaria has started, they have repaired more than 600 aircraft.
